Children's Ministry
Many of the children in the villages come from broken families where they often experience abuse, lack of love and respect. The traditional family values have been lost and it is difficult for them to have positive role models. We run a weekly Kids' Club to offer a safe and fun place for the children of our community to share the Gospel, disciple and love on them. We have around 70 children in our Kids' Club program. We also do Vacation Bible School type ministries in many villages and work with local elementary schools. In the schools we have opportunities to teach English, computers, the Bible, sexual education and give parenting classes. Many schools have also been blessed by painting and fixing projects, donations of school uniforms, school supplies and play grounds. |
Bible Project: A Bible to Every Home in Guanacaste
The goal of this project is to give a Bible to every home in Guanacaste by the end of 2026. There are 120 000 homes and so far we have given Bibles to 45 000 homes. People don’t know the Bible, many have never read it and even Christians don’t often have a Bible of their own. Our team distributes soft cover full Bibles house to house. We work together with the local churches and get a lot of help for the project from visiting teams. The funds for buying and distributing the Bibles come from individual donors. You too, can give Bibles to homes in Guanacaste by donating. The price for each Bible is $ 3 US. Read more. |
Homeless Ministry
Since 2014, every Tuesday morning we cook, pack the food at the base and drive to Nicoya. We normally meet the homeless people in the city at the park for a short preaching and sharing the meal with them. Currently we are feeding around 18 homeless persons weekly. We’ve seen many faces come and go, seen some of them lose their lives to alcohol and we've not seen many recover from this addiction; but we know God loves them. Would you like to share God’s love to the homeless people of Nicoya? You can feed 20 people in the streets with a gift of $26. |
Youth Ministry
Since the very first days of YWAM Nicoya, we have seen the pain, brokenness and lack of hope in the youth. We organise youth nights, camps and activities for youth from the villages around. It is an opportunity for the local youth to meet Christian young people, hear testimonies, get to know God and also have some healthy fun. We also visit and support youth groups in the local churches. This ministry is very rewarding; it fills us with joy to see some of these young people give their lives to Jesus, be renewed, start walking with clear purpose and direction. At the same time it is very challenging and requires a lot of patience, because to become a Christian often means being ridiculed and rejected by the community and the forces to pull you back are very strong. Part of the youth ministry is working with high schools in the area. We have open doors to visit schools to do presentations, to teach English, give drug awareness talks and sexual education teachings. |
Community SupportWe are surrounded by hundreds of rural communities. To see biblical transformation in these villages, we use a model called "the Gospel of two hands", meaning that while we preach the Gospel, we also respond to the physical needs of the communities and their inhabitants.
We are involved in everyday lives of the communities where we live. The broken roads are our problems as well. The broken down schools, lack of opportunities for the youth, families in extreme poverty, the needs of clinics, police stations and community buildings are important to us, because they are important to God. Through donations, groups and individuals we respond to these needs as much as possible. We don't just do projects for the communities, but work together with them for the benefit of their villages. One example, is working with women in crafts and jewelry making to generate income for women and mothers in a village where there are no job opportunities. This ministry welcomes both teams and individuals skilled in carpentry, construction, painting, plumbing, crafts, etc. to come and serve in one of these projects to make a difference for God! |
