Since the very first weeks of us being in Guanacaste we have seen the pain, brokenness and lack of hope in the youth, and have responded by organizing regular youth meetings at the base. It is an opportunity for the local youth to meet Christian young people, hear testimonies, get to know God and also have some healthy fun. We have also organized several youth camps and now the yearly Rodeo Bible Camps are available for all the youth from 8 to 18 yrs of age. This ministry is very rewarding; it fills us with joy to see some of these young people give their lives to Jesus, be renewed, start walking with clear purpose and direction. At the same time it is very challenging and requires a lot of patience, because to become a Christian often means being ridiculed and rejected by the community and the forces to pull you back are very strong.
Part of the youth ministry is working with High Schools in the area. We have open doors to visit many schools to do presentations, to teach English or to give Drug Awareness talks. The last years Sexual Education teachings have become the most frequent reason for our staff to visit different schools. We teach about Teen Pregnancy Prevention, STD's and also work with the parents to know how to talk about these topics with their children.
